Forestyne's Waltz

by Bill Graham
Kate & Steve sing this on the Portland Romance recording and you can play along with it in C.
We learned this pearl secondhand from a friend of a friend of friend. It was written about Forestyne Loyles (1907-1991) and her personal story as a young woman coming of age and, smitten but still refused the invitation to dance by a soldier from Ft. Leavenworth whom she never forgot. Forestyne never married, and confided the reason with the cleaning girl helping her to prepare to leave her historic home (she was a descendent in Daniel Boone's line) in Weston, Platte Co. Missouri, to live in a retirement home. Everyone in the area knew and loved Forestyne Loyles, and didn't know this piece of her history until the cleaning girl told Bill Graham what Forestyne had told her, and he wrote this classic beauty that night. We learned it the day we played in the area from Bill's friends, Dave & Yvonne, and have been singing and sharing the story ever since.
