Marv
by Steve Einhorn
Steve Einhorn - Webber C-tuned Low-G Baritone Ukulele
Kate Power - MyaMoe 6-String Tenor Ukulele Producer - Billy Oskay
Portland Romance, Track 2
Steve wrote this tune for his Tuesday evening uke class in Olympia, Washington a few years ago as an exercise in chord melody with a Scott Joplin influence. Its two distinctive parts are expressive and fun to play on ukuleles - or any instrument.
Steve's father, Marv, enjoyed the tune and the first time he heard it, picked up his violin to play along. Marv had a great ear and was able to pick up any tune or song almost immediately. Music had bonded father and son over a lifetime, and this fresh new piece was one of the last songs they played together. Steve named the piece in memory of Marv and the many sweet tunes they shared. The basic Marv chart in tab below was written during its earliest inception to provide the basic form for students to learn to play it on uke in the key of C. Marv, as recorded on Portland Romance, is played on two ukes (Steve's C-tuned baritone and Kate's 6-string lili'u (2nd uke) and with varied inflections that may differ from the page.
