NOTHING DOING
Music by Steve Einhorn, Words by Kate Power
The tune to this was tickling Steve and his guitar for a few weeks. I was washing dishes as he headed out the door one day, and asked me to throw some words on it. This is the lyric I came up with by the time he came home, inspired by our youngest, a quiet 8-year old who struggled at the time to figure out how to start a conversation with a girl he was too shy to approach. We all arrive at moments like these and this was one angle on making hard decisions for two waiting hearts.
Nothing Doing
Kate Power & Steve Einhorn
F C7 F Bb
Nothing doing, nothing gained
F C7 F C7
I’m tired of sitting on the rail
F C7 F Bb
A bolt of lightning, runaway train
F C7 F C7
Like a hammer on the head of a nail
F C7 F Bb
I’ve been lucky, I’ve been framed
F C7 F C7
I’ve been set up and I’ve been shot down
F C7 F Bb
If I’m right I’ll be with you tonight
F C7 F
Before the rising moon goes down
Chorus:
F Bb F C7 F
I’ve been waiting for you to say “Come on, come on”
Bb F C7
You’ve been waiting for me to do the same
Bb F C7 Dm
If we wait any longer, too long, too long
Bb C7 F
We won’t know what we’re missing till it’s way too late
We won’t know what we’re missing till it’s way too late
F C7 F Bb
Sweet sugar, sweet honey babe
F C7 F C7
I’m shipwrecked on an isle of woe
F C7 F Bb
You’ve got me crazy, I’m going insane
F C7 F
Lost in your sweet undertow (Chorus)
F C7 F Bb
Say you love me, say you do
F C7 F C7
I’ll be yours forever and a day
F C7 F Bb
I’ll love no other the way I do you
F C7 F
I’m waiting just to hear you say (Chorus)
