Redwood
by Kate Power & Steve Einhorn
REDWOOD was one of those tunes that sprang free between trees in the ancient redwoods on our first trip through the Avenue of the Giants in northern California. We were homeward bound after circling the country to teach folks to play and sing on uke. The video above captured the emergence of this tune, and it has continued to remind us of the spark of joy we do experience playing music together. Redwood has grown into a favorite rhythm stimulator at our uke gatherings over the years (and yes, that was a squirrel throwing nuts at us near the end of the tune on the YouTube!) This is an excellent choice for solo, to strum, pick or frail as you like.
The hash marks below are the beats in 4/4 - they signify how many strokes on each chord - without stopping, of course! The tempo is light and quick enough to move to. Everybody dance!
