Portland Romance,Track 1
It's said that Dylan wrote this song for Ian Tyson & Sylvia Fricker's debut Four Strong Winds album in 1963, a turning point album for both Steve and me. The record came out right around the time we had each begun to learn to play guitar - he in Teaneck and me in Basking Ridge, NJ. Four Strong Winds was the first song my father taught me how to play on the guitar. Steve and I were each out on stage playing our first gigs in folk clubs soon after this album came out, and long before aiming our compass for Portland, Oregon. We didn't know each other then but we knew this song.
Thanks goes to friend and producer, Jon Neufeld, for his beautiful solo on this song on his Sullivan archtop guitar.
