ABOUT UKULELE BOOT CAMP...UKE BOOT CAMP
|
UKE BOOT CAMP is a group workout to condition music muscles on uke with patterning drills, fingerboard and fingerpicking exercises for left and right hand to develop agility, uke-confidence and musicality.
QUALIFICATIONS
If you can change basic uke chords without stopping, you qualify.
ABOUT KATE’S UKE
Kate’s uke is C-tuned and has been modified with a low G-string on her baritone. The tuning is the same four notes as the soprano, concert and tenor uke instead of standard baritone tuning (dgbe - like the top four strings of a guitar). his tuning is the same as its smaller body ukes and the larger body gives it a deeper sound. Instead of the 4th string above the 3rd string C – the 4th string, “My” in “my dog has fleas” has been lowered to be the G four notes under the 3rd string “dog” note.
If you would like to try the "C" with low-G tuning on your baritone uke, talk to Steve and he will help you to modify your strings.
WHAT ELSE?
UKE BOOT CAMP is one of several ways to enjoy playing and learning and you can apply what you learn at the Wednesday Dojo. DOJO SONGBOOK is used in both settings and may be accessed online or you can print one for your personal songbook.
WHO IS KATE POWER and WHY IS SHE TEACHING THIS?
A lifelong folk musician, multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter, my desire to run this boot camp is twofold. I am dedicated to introducing others to the joy of music making on uke to deepen their personal enjoyment and musicality. I teach what I’ve learned in more than fifty years as a musician in a fun, universal and digestible manner. My teaching is aural and visual, by-ear, and occasionally accompanied by tablature, online tools and videos to practice with.
Uke strummers who are ready to learn more interesting ways to play will start fingerpicking in a strum-busting curriculum that turns ho-hum uke players into more exciting musicians who can play with confidence, creativity and deepening enjoyment.
WHO DOES THIS?
Boot campers and students of the dojo typically have been playing uke for a while, and have a growing desire to mature as musicians to make more beautiful music. These students strive to learn and play even the simplest melody with care. Dojo teaches ways to apply practice, discipline, patience, expression, ability and skill to bring music to life and enhance the ensemble experience on uke.
WILL IT HELP ON OTHER INSTRUMENTS?
Yes! Many aspects of Dojo and Uke Boot Camp teachings, theory and exercises can be applied to other stringed instruments.
WHERE’S STEVE?
Steve Einhorn participates with friendly insights and provides backup to the group with beautiful accompaniment on-demand at camp.
